The best and only place where I feel very secured and blessed
Captivating experience beneath the citys heights square at the sea side
Good parking space, Chapel available, and Pauline Bookshop close by for spiritual books.Has Mass in Swahili language and also in English language which starts at 8.30am.
This church is really interresting due to some specific reasons. One - its located exactly opposite to Zanzibar ferry harbour. So if you are waiting for your ferry you can find nice hideout here and avoid this whole noise, insolent people and beating sun as well. Two - its one of most beautifull and monumental buidings of Dar. Three - as a real church this one also provides services. You can participate and see all those people worshiping and singing. Four - Old Boma and business center is just around the corner.
The cathedral ⛪ is a place of worship 🙌 🙏 ✨ ❤
The best Catholic church I ever worshipped at...
A beautiful place for worship
The Saint Josephs Metropolitan Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It is a Gothic church located in Sokoine Drive, facing the harbour, close to the White Fathers House. It was built by the Germans between 1897 and 1902 and consecrated as a Catholic church in 1905.
The oldest catholic church in dar es Salaam. Iconic building facing the indian ocean and Dar es salaam Port. The building resembles the European architecture complexity with towers, big columns and Roman artifacts. One of most iconic building in Tanzania. The construction tools place in the colonial Era.
Cool place for prayers. On week days there three masses per day. Morning, afternoon and evening. On Thursday evening there is benediction. On Saturday evening there is holy rosary and confession. There is a small chapel in there, there is holy Eucharist. The place is so cool for meditation and personal prayers, and its open through out the day. There is perfect sea breeze from the ocean. (Prayer with a breeze, so perfect).Out side the cathedral premises in the south (where the main gate is) there is sokoine drive and across it there is Zanzibar ferry terminal. East there is st. Josephs millenium high school and Catholic book store, where you can get plenty of religious books, spiritual books, philosophical books and much more but not curriculum texts for secondary schools. The place is so fantastic.
Historic Gothic-style cathedral, built by the Germans during colonial time. This church is the seat of the archdiocese of Dar es Salaam. It has gorgeous stained glass windows across the sides and behind the altar, which in itself is remarkable... and quite a sight especially when the late afternoon/evening sun shines through. Within its tall steeple/bell tower is a still-functional bell. During the Sunday masses, there are beautiful choirs singing at each Kiswahili or English masses. What is disappointing, however, is the once beautiful garden that stood across from the main Cathedral building and adjacent to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel have been replaced by 2 more glass and concrete structures, rather than maintaining the garden and working the prayer areas around the said garden. If you want a peaceful place to spend time contemplating the mysteries of life or for silent prayer, among the hustle and bustle of Tanzanias busy economic capital - St. Josephs Cathedral may just be the place you need. 😊
In the summer of 2002, I was strolling around the town. Sent a postcard at the post office near the Cathedral. Enjoyed Tangawizi ginger ale. It was strong and delicious, reminded me of Wilkinsons.
The Cathedral! Surely it is the Cathedral! With Holy mass sessions everyday! A 24/7 chapel with Jesus int the Eucharist. Situated in City Centre... Giving chance to commuters to have their mass service before getting into their offices!
Very good place and feels peaceful

Its a catholic church located at the heart of Dar es salaam city in Tanzania. It offers religious services every day. Its opposite Azam marine, and the Indian ocean view. Its beautiful and one of the old cathedrals.
One of the earliest Catholic church in the country, near the Indian ocean surrounded by tall buildings of the city...the sunday is great here for Catholics, 🙏
A gem in Dar es Salaam. It was built by Germans during the early colonial days. Impressive architecture. The altar has been remodeled but the original altar is still present. A beautiful church in the midst of gawdy and grotesque skyscrapers.
They have both Swahili and English masses. I always attend the English Mass every Sunday 8.30am.The choir is fantastic!
