Its the same art youll find in curio shops and other spots across the country, but youll be dealing with the original artists here, no middlemen.Theres a casual feel about the place, no pressure to pick or choose. Prices are negotiable. Some paintings stand out more than others, as expected.Unfortunately, most of the painters replicate their own work so it diminishes their value a bit. Definitely worth a visit.Friendly safe place so you wont need a guide.

We went here yesterday with my friends. The place is really good, so full of arts. They have good customer care and welcoming. Everyone there is so kind hearted. We bought some arts and its so beautiful there. There prices are affordable.

Usual touristy stuff, dont come looking for real art, it is far from it. Painters sitting making copies after copies of the once original art piece..you can haggle and bring down the price to 50%

We spent about an hour here. We had an experience different from the other reviewers. Many of the artists were pushy for us to buy their art. There also was a lot of repetition in the pieces they made (both as individuals and across artists). It appears that the shop makes some profit that the artists share, a bit like how the woodcarvers work at the Mwenge market. Many pieces are sloppy, and it takes time to sift through generally unorganized stacks of work to find items that appealed most to us. It would’ve been nice for the artists to explore their own styles and provide that background. Outside of the cooperative, we’ve found more variety and attention to detail from some artists and in some shops. Pricing here is more straightforward, and the shopkeeper is kind. Smaller canvases started at 35,000 TSH each. We bargained down a bit from there.

If you are ever in Masaki and are into cultural arts, this place is a must see. It is packed with amazing raw talent. The prices of the tingatinga art vary depending on size of canvas and particular style used to paint but anyone with time to spare and a few haggling skills can negotiate their way down to a reasonable discount. The tiny wood placards are around 5,000/-Tsh ($2.17) and the very large ones go for around 150,000/-Tsh ($ 65.21). Another super cool fact is if you require a duplicate this can be done in a short amount of time.

After visiting art markets in Arusha, Bagamoyo and Stone Town, I can truly vouch that this one is the best in terms of variety + pricing. The best thing I like about the Tinga Tinga Arts is the studio & workshop so you can observe the artists painting. Yes, most of the paintings are generic but look closely, you can find original ideas as well. In other art markets, only paintings are sold but in Tinga Tinga, there are varieties of painted crafts such as trays, cutleries, pens, pencils, bottles, and etc. It was really hard to walk away and not buy anything. Definitely a good place to drop by if you are in Dar Es Salaam. A painting (almost the same) which was sold for $60 in Arusha had a starting price of $40 here and thats without bargaining. Please dont go too low on bargaining, these are hard working artists who still needs to make a living. Bargain for a price which you think is okay. Tinga Tinga is definitely the highlight of my Dar stopover.
