We stayed in the Maars Resort and was quite dissatisfied.Staff were very friendly but some struggled with the communication skill.What got me the most unhappy was all the bugs and especially the flies at breakfast and supper. When you feel uncomfortable to have a seat in the lounge area due to the bugs all over I cant accept to think that management cant do anything about this.Pool area and rooms were great. Clean and sufficient.
The place doesnt look like what it is on the pictures of it that are on the website. The buildings are old and most of the roof is falling apart. The garden is overgrown. Not much maintenance. The food was horrible. I only enjoyed the fried rice and ice cream. Couldnt stomach anything else. It has nice views of the ocean but thats about it. You cant swim by the beach cos the water has seaweeds and is green. The sun beds could use a fresh coat of vanish or be replaced. They are uncomfortable cos theres no spunge/mattress on them. You sit directly on the wood. The umbrellas also need to be changed as they have been battered by the sun. The pool area needs maintenance. The whole resort requires a lot of maintenance.
This place presents itself as really good but its horrible. The front desk staff are horrible and not polite niether welcoming.Please be carefully when using a credit card we witnessed how they had no sympathy after overcharging clients and having no explanation for the bill. The rooms are full of mould, the shower water is salty. The breakfast is tasteless and so is whatever is on the menu and we were forced to eat there since the place is really isolated. The beach is not clean or clear. Please make sure to check everything before you stay here.
The Englisch of the employes is very bad and they are very shy. The food is very often the same. The dinner is good but lunch and breakfast not realy. They absolutly dont know how to mix cocktails and the price is not that cheap. Wifi is just in the bar and a little bit pool and food area and not in the rooms. The rooms smell very old and the water for shower take an half hour to get warm. There are no other restaurants in the near so you have to include dinner. If you dont do it you have to pay 14$ for it. Not worth it.But all in all its a cheap place to stay and if you just sleep in the hotel and do many daytrips, which you can book on the reception or on the beach, its the right thing for you. (very nice Beach by the way)
The accommodation is located in a quiet bay: No noise, smoke, only silence and the sound of the sea. Perfect for relaxation. Very nice staff! Cleanliness, daily cleaning, change of clothes. The pace looks good and its right at the beach but the water is salty for the showers and for washing the hands, its like they pumped it right from the sea. The break fasts are very bad, we got served with raw eggs couple of times. The beach is filled with sea weed and it is not swimmable.
Horrible, do not go here. Manager is rude and not helpful at all. We had to move one evening at midnight because smoke was coming out of electric outlet. Resort is run down. The kitchen ran out of food choices for dinner and breakfast. Available food and drinks are not enough for the amount of guests staying there. A run down place
A little bit boring place. Local staff in restaurant and bar barely speaks English. Breakfast buffet wasnt very enjoyable, but food from a la cart menu was tasty. Hotel can take you to Nungwi beach by van for a very cheap price, also they offer different tours.
I was there with my family, having come from Turkey, in December. Very quiet and serene environment. Dont forget to bring something warm as it is cool at night. We spent the evenings at the lobby, where you can sometimes see show. As we were watching acrobatic show, I was very cold because of sea breeze.But I didnt like food at all. Also there was a big rat running from hole to hole in our room, which may be tolerated as the resort is situated at seafront. However, staff handled the situation with an I-dont-care mood. That teased me.
Ive stayed at the resort with my family during 1/2018, including kids aged 2 years and up.The location is great for families- within an hour by taxi from most of the attractions from one hand, and in a rural, quiet area from the other.The hotel is situated on the beach- maybe 30 meters from the deluxe rooms porch, which lets you meet crabs on the alleys, and on the brink of the jungle- twice we met a band of Colobus monkeys inside the perimeter.The team is terrific, everyones attitude is warm and caring- from the reception to the Masai guards. The territory is outstandingly clean and neat.Rooms are kept very tidy, the air conditioner worked perfectly. Also, there are internationally compatible electrical sockets inside the rooms.You can find spots that are not up to highest standard of maintenance- but one should remember that we speak not of Europe, but of a local pearl, for me it just added to the charm of the place.The cuisine offers good variety of dishes with much local flavor. Nothing was left on our plates :)Tours that suggested by the team are really good, tariffs allright, the service of the drivers when we wanted a ride elsewhere is fantastic.The beach maybe is not number one on ZNZ, but it is very nice.To sum it up- it was a great vacation, so many thanks to the team of this resort, I recommend it highly.
The place has nice rooms, comfortable beds, and food is also ok. it has two swimming pools, a bar and a restaurant. breakfast is served only until 9:30 am. there is no beach and its far away from any attractions. taxi to Stone Town will cost you around 30$. the staff speaks little English and they are very very slowly. wifi works only at the reception and offers a poor connection.it may be a perfect place for someone who wants solitude and doesnt like swimming in a sea/ocean.
It was not as depicted in the pictures. The food was terrible and management was so unfriendly. They really need to work on their flaws. On the other hand, Filao Resort, which happens to be right next door was amazing.
A lovely place in a less touristy side of Zanzibar. Very great value for a beach side resort too. The rooms were very clean, cozy, and romantic with a breathtaking ocean view! The food is a bit on the higher end. There are arranged tours and trips at fairly good prices. There are also some local tour guides who prepared a DELICIOUS Swahili meal for us on our last day in Chwaka.All in all, a bang for your buck if youre up to a quiet and secluded getaway.
Rood staff. Not nice food. You cant swim at the beach you have outside the hotel. If you want nice beach, I will recommend you to stay in the north part of Zanzibar.

The worst place and exprience i ever had to endure the photos are misleading the food is absolutely atrocious the management are unprofessional rude no activities for the guest the place is way isolated.As for the food dont get me started tasteless overpriced most of guest had to travel to the villages to buy food.YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED STAY FROM THIS PLACE ALTOGETHER AS YOU WILL REGRET!!!

The hotel is not located in the most beautiful part of the island.The rooms are decent and clean. The staff are lovely except the receptionist not at all smiling.The positive point the price of the unbeatable excursions ... I did them all 💕💕💕
Pros: Smiling helpful waitresses, room just ok the price of excursions and the pool.The setting could have been beautiful but do not be fooled by the pictures. These were taken at a time when this hotel was not run down.The unpleasant receptionist at the possible. The wifi only in the common areas ... well when it works. 1 time out of 2 power failure. If it rains the dining room is flooded. The sea view room ... the beach is disgusting full of seaweed vase full of rubbish. The hotel has kayaks or paddles which are at your disposal ... only if you want to risk yourself in this beach left abandoned. In short, run away !!
We stayed in the resort in August 2019. I state that we were interested in touring as much as possible and therefore we did not do an all inclusive (and thank goodness) first because we ate in really nice Zanzibari places and with good food and second because the food in resort is definitely not among the best.Rooms ok, in the norm, clean. And the beach with palm trees is also really nice. But the dining room and bar area definitely needs to be reviewed. We hardly ever ate there (except out of strict necessity as I said before) because a buffet dinner (not of excellent quality) at 14 dollars each excluding drinking seemed excessive. The staff do not know English, so it is not easy to communicate with them. The sea is not beautiful (compared to the whole island) because it is located in a bay, so the service in the resort, in our opinion, should be impeccable. If you are looking for a good starting point to get around the island, adapting yourself, it can still be fine.
Extremely disappointing hotel. Very eccentric and located in the least beautiful part of the island.The beach is not passable because it is very dirty. The hotel is in very poor condition. The rooms are catastrophic, big smell of mold ...The only 2 things are the price and the pool.
Do not take this hotel, we were on February 8, 2020. A real nightmare to start !!! Room with foul smells !! Rude staff! The greasy food a 3 year old kid does better! After having shown our dissatisfaction we were entitled to a stab in our tire !!! Rental car of course! Greasy beach! The manager is rude with his staff! Please do not book you may regret it. Supported photos. Some comm +++ are fakes.
The resort has incredible potential .. but is run really badly. he would need some maintenance, some kinder receptionists and who speak better English at least ... the food offered at dinner is not worth the cost. on the whole we found ourselves well even if it is in a strategic point to reach every destination on the island, but considering that the sea is practically not swimmable do not expect to be able to spend your days there!
Here the sea is there but it is not suitable for swimming.It is not a question of high or low tide.The seabed is flat for almost a kilometer (Even at high tide)The structure is not bad but the service bad. Without hot water. You ask, they take note of the room and then ... they disappear.Unqualifiable.
Hotel on the beach which is not the most beautiful of the island but is quiet, deckchair and towels available. Staff helpful but very restrained, not in the exchange off propellers very very nice. At the reception a very closed manager, another very very smiling and responsive. Hot and nice pool. Breakfast varies a little every day, do not take too late to have everything. Restaurant at a fair price compared to others. In the end, complex value for money. 2 caveats, access absolutely indicated, our GPS did not bring us, and limit environment
The hotel is very basic and inexpensive, but perfect for a short break. The breakfast is OK, the dinner cheap and good. If the beach is not enough, then on to the next. The drivers are cheap and organized by the hotel. We are not here in Germany, so please! We will be back. Thomas and Yvonne
A perfect value for money, a very good personal service to listen, good food, breakfast varied, entertainment pool and bar for those who want to stay on site, excursions defying all competition we have not been disappointed! It is the cheapest hotel on the island, and I think it is he who has one of the most beautiful nature park in his establishment, rest, and natural resource assured, I think for the adventurers it is a real good product ... Inevitably you can not have the same benefits as the hotel next door which is double and does not have such a nice park and exactly the same beach, beware of Zanzibar there are two big tides a day, so at low tide the sea is far, far away. Currently the managers are renovating the rooms so that a beautiful product ends, it will not take time to renovate the pool. We stayed for 15 days we took a deluxe seaview room and planned all the tours of the hotel - a budget of $ 105 per person and half board. The catering staff, maids are incredibly kind ... The cook does miracles with can of medium, search dishes and super well presented, it is even his bread .. It is extraordinary, catering prices are cheaper $ 13 the menu ... this hotel gives you the means to afford Zanzibar which is a very expensive island ... Have a nice holiday.
Hotel overall ok although we stayed two nights and the housekeeping was not done in between, for a hotel resort its average .. The staff is not very pleasant.
We arrived, the area to access, does not exist, we had to go through the beach and garbage areas, the taxi got stuck in the sand. Being that we toured other areas of Zanzibar, this is not recommended. The beach impossible to bathe, the place lacks maintenance, desolate and poorly located. We arrived, we paid for a stay (although we did not stay) and we went in the same taxi in which we went. Even the taxi driver told us that the area and the place were not good.
A great resort, friendly staff, clean spacious rooms, good service and very affordable. Directly on a beautiful beach with warm and clean water. You can walk straight onto the beach from your apartment / bedroom!
This hotel is a complete disaster in every way, it is in a state of neglect, the conservation is very bad, the bar and restaurant are very bad and expensive, there is nothing to do here and there are no leisure or restoration options in kilometers, sicia beach and poorly maintained, there is nothing to be saved!
20.02.2018rHello to all users I would like to warn everyone who chooses this place, I have no idea why and who is writing such a good opinion about this place, unfortunately with my friends we also read these reviews and after reaching the place it turned out to be some misunderstanding of breakfast hopeless, no free transfers to Uroa which were but are not, houses mega weak their splendor passed 10 years ago electricity turn off every day for half a day so the climate does not go uncleaned beach lie bottles and trash even for a scooter behind the car they wanted $ 5 but eventually I got go for free, the pool is cleaned, so that everyone can warn you about this place, but howalways the choice is yours if you can choose Nungwi is 3 photos with beautiful beaches
Maybe it was ok 10 years ago. Now neglected. Power failure again and again. Its raining in the rooms. The same food every day. Hot water is a matter of luck. Not really recommended.
Budget vacation. But there is an opportunity to travel around the whole island, and not to sit under the sun on the beach. Prices for tours are the lowest in Zanzibar!
Very quiet resort, nearby is Chwaka village. The big disadvantage of the resort is a very significant outflow and practical inability to swim in the ocean. The resort is replaced by a free ride to Uroa Beach, which is significantly better. Cheap and quality trips from the hotel, good dinners, satisfying breakfasts. I recommend it as cheap accommodation, from where you can make trips to the beauty of Zanzibar.
Place is good. Peace. Excellent balcony view. When sitting on the balcony blowing a wonderful breeze refreshing. Clean. Beds are comfortable. Food is really poor. !!! No service. Advise on the lowest level. Dishes. We heard there were other owners before. There was order. Just dont care about the customer .. it looks like you have a bit. If you ask me .. lets get in touch with the local guys who offer the services to go somewhere just for a great deal!
The rice is delicious and there is a swimming pool, so it is the best resort but the water pressure in the bathroom is too weak.
Room ok, the rest of the resort was great 20 years ago but pretty run down these days. The staff is great.
