Upon recommendation of some other photographers, my friend Jim and I booked a tour with Aardvark Safaris Tanzania. We worked closely with Gus in advance to plan exactly where we wanted to go. What a fantastic trip we had! Gus and David are both so knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. All of our accomodations were very comfortable. We left early each morning to have the best chance of seeing the animals (also the best light for photography). Gus and David knew just where to go for the best viewing of lions, elephants, zebras, cheetahs, tigers, hippos, and much more. Not only are they well versed in the animals of Tanzania, but they also can identify the beautiful birds as well as the plants of the area. I highly recommend Aardvark Safaris Tanzania for your trip to East Africa. I hope to go back soon and look forward to using Gus and his team again.
I cant imagine a first introduction to the beautiful landscape, wildlife, local people, and conservation practices of Tanzania more incredible and in-depth than the one I experienced with Aardvark Safaris Tanzania. The safari was not only a photographic experience, but an educational one. Not only do I have a deep respect for the company and its practice of eco-tourism - an attempt to both respect Tanzanias wildlife and understand the varied lifestyles of the countrys local people, but Augustine Mwangotya (tour leader and owner of Aardvark) is without a doubt one of the kindest, warmest, and most knowledgeable people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. For the two weeks that I spent on safari with Aardvark, Augustine was not only our groups guide through the vast landscapes of Tanzania, but also our teacher and, more importantly, our friend who cared selflessly about our well-being. I cant thank Aardvark Safaris Tanzania enough for the exciting, eye-opening, and humbling experience of a lifetime.
Aardvark is a wonderful company with an honorable purpose: to show people the incalculably valuable resource that is the preserved wildlife habitat of Tanzania, and to do it responsibly. Eco-tourism, or nature-based tourism, is an approach to leading a safari that respects wildlife, people, and land, and provides a much richer experience. Augustine, our trip leader and owner of Aardvark, has an expansive knowledge of Tanzania and its ecosystems, and has such a deep love and respect for the nature hes taking you through. He will answer any question you can think of, and will tell you more still. Both of our drivers (Augustine being one) were knowledgable, as well as funny, kind, and always enthusiastic. They are just as excited to see a new animal as you are. We also visited the Masaai, Datoga, and Hadzabe tribes, adding an absolutely incredible cultural experience to the trip. I cannot recommend this company and these wonderful people highly enough.
