The rainforest around the crater is amazing, but dont expect a lot of animals there, mostly they are very far away. After that park i went to Tarangire and i was overwhelmed from the amount of animals, the large size of the park. Viewing back in my opinion Arusha national park isnt worth the entry compared to what you can see in Tarangire. We went to both parks with a private vehicle.
Arusha National Park was really fun. It is conveniently located close to the city.It is an ideal choice for people with limited time but want to have a full safari experience. Both game drive and walking safari are possible. Private cars are allowed inside the part with a tour guide. Many thinga to see inside including birds, three Momela soda lakes, many different animals, a waterfall and streams and different kinds of vegetation.
Loved the walking safari at Arusha National Park. If you opt for this make sure you go for the one over 6 hours as you get to see the water , the big tree arch and other areas of the park. Our guide Ali was very knowledgeable
You people who want to visit this park save your time and money and dont go there because its no aimals to see. The same for Terengire Park is under all criticism. Spend your time and money on other places. It was really bad 👎
Do not waste your time and money ($116 for 2 people for 1 day!) If you are going to tarangire, serengeti, ngorongoro or like park later. It had plenty of animals on the close to entry place, on a plato, than only flamingos. Park is small and its too close to city and it has mountain in it. Thats why its has not abundant wildlife. Animals dont like mountain, they like savannah. Our car stuck in this park, you need 4 wd to feel confident. Kruger is WAY better. And cheaper. Tarangire is better too. But not cheaper. Good luck!
Great park with lots of wildlife. Although you wont find lions in the park, there is plenty of nature to experience as well climbing Mt Meru
Great for Mt. Meru climbers combining a walking Safari. Advice: 1. insist on walking through the animal part and not the fig tree. Amazing to have a walking safari as you start and end the climb. 2. If you know you are good with 3500 elevation consider sleeping in Saddle Hut 2 nights. This way you walk out on 4th day 13 km 2000 meter elevation drop (instead of 21km, 1000 up and 2000 meter down on climb day). 3. We opted for 4 a.m. wakeup, 5 a.m. start, 6:30 sunrise at Rhino point and then 10:30 summit. Two adults, 2 thirteen year olds. Park tries to group groups with a single ranger, then often force you to take fig tree route which is a 4wd track with some vehicles crossing you and no animals. Consider a private one for 100 dollars then you are flexible.
The perfect start to any Safari without having to drive hundreds of K.m to get there. Also offers easy paced walking safaris and a relaxed paddle on Little Momela lake, Great birding and a place just to get away from the hustle and bustle of Arusha town...grab a picnic basket and a bottle of wine sit back and enjoy the jaw dropping views.
Enjoyed this NP. Have to admit that it was our first park so we were in awe but now that weve visited 4 other parks now, we realize that Arusha NP doesnt nearly have the diversity and #s of animals as the other parks in Tanzania. Despite all this what made Arusha NP unique was the hilly terrain (Mt. Meru), the awesome weather (cool, sunny weather), the ability to do a walking safari, and the good roads where we could drive ourselves through the park in just a Toyota RAV4 that wed rented.
What a great place...so lovely....and pop in at Fun Retreat Resort
Basically four communities lives hereMaasai, WaArusha, WaMeru & WaChagaThe Mount Meru Area was formerly occupied by Maasai pastoralists before the end of XIX century and many of places names are of Maasai Origin. The Meru are Bantu speaking people who migrated to Mt. Meru from Western Kilimanjaro and from the Usambara area in the XVII century. The WaArusha people arrived in the area later than WaMeru. In 1830 they settled west of the present Arusha town, they absorbed Maasai speaking people into their tribe and became Maasai speakers themselves.Comes to WaChaga, they are Bantu speakers who started recently to migrate to Mt. Meru from the neighbouring Mt. Kilimanjaro
Amaizing with abundant wildlife species and mount Meru. A place for every one to experience
Amazing park nearby Arusha if you have time never miss to be there 👍☺️
Its mostly beautiful part for visiting in ArushaThere you can see wild animals in their natural environment
Its environmental nature makes the place more attractive, fresh air and its cool habitation also makes it so unique.
Good park for the day. Beautiful walking safari and lovely drive around the lake. Not too many animals and rough, stony roads.
Best national park to visit for leasure and learning
Great view, very greenish landscap. Full of wild animals like buffaloes lots of them, giraffes lots of them with their romantic walk, zebra lots of them with their security minded stand, various kind of birds- flamingos, and those who follow buffaloes and other kinds. Hyenas lots as well, lakes, hills, lots of rivers to make the land green all the time, swamp areas, and a great beautiful view of mount meru.
Fantastic, unique experience. The fig tree arc is a must and be on the look out for colobus monkeys in the forest. Stunning landscapes, beautiful forests, serenity pure. Dont skip this park during your holiday Inn Tanzania!
Tropical safari, a little different than the rest of the parks around. A lot of giraffes, zebras and monkeys, but no predators.I dont recommend flying to Tanzania just for thiypark, but definitely recommend to include it as part of safaris tour.
A relatively small national park close to Arusha City, just a 40-minute drive. It boasts two of the big five (leopard and buffalo) and lots of other animals (giraffes, warthogs, antelopes) and birds. A walk in the park is a very pleasant experience.
Short drive with alot of ungulates diversity, mount meru which covered by forestIconic spp:black and white coloubus monkey
The environment is amazing! But the estructure is sadly. The Museum is abandoned, the toilets are disgusting. There are a expensive tax to enter the park and it is possible to see that the money dont stay in the park. Weve seen few animals like giraffes, gnus and buffalos.
One amongst Tanzania national parks, This place has got tourist attractions of it own kind, making a tour by car or horse or canoeing or walking safaris on foot without forgetting climbing mount meru. All other services are world class. So welcome and enjoy yourself
Excelent park and right close to town. You can rent a car or SUV and do it yourself. There are lots of giraffes, some buffaloes, lots of monkeys. We didnt see elephants but we heard there are. Its not like Serengeti or Ngorongoro but its worth the time. Its much cheaper. There is a place where you can have a pick nick, cant remember the exact place but its elevated and you get a very nice view of a lake. Also if you are lucky you can see the flamingos (the pink ones). Stay patient and you will see many manu giraffes...
Very beautiful place to visit
Nice safari with zebras hogs giraffes pythons (rare sight but I saw one) flamingos and monkeys but no lions or elephants. Its can be a one day safari but the larger safaris which take at least 2 days such as Ngoro ngoro and Serengeti are better.
Nice view of the Crater a must place to visit for Bird watchers and not to miss the walking safari. Picnic spot besides the lake is awesome!
This park is amazing! The best for resting a peace. You can walk between the animals and if you stay at Momella lodge you can have breakfast with the giraffes that litterally graze in the garden! Best ever !!!!!
Had a day to spare and went here. Well worth the trip. Breathtaking scenery and some fantastic wildlife. Dont go here if all you want to see is the big 5, but for undisturbed habitat and panoramic views it is great.
It has a lot of good animals to watch and also good chattering birds but also you can get good accomodation you can also have walking with a guide infact every thing is marvelous when you come you wont get out with something.
This place is the best it has plenty of different animals plenty of different plants they all natural. If your a guy whos like to hang out on nature this is your place. your welcome
Awesome daytrip location if youre in Arusha. Only about 40 minutes from town, and you can go on a game drive, walking safari and a boat trip, all in the same spot. Guides are available at the gate and you can self drive.
Great park with wild animals ... walking safari possible in the park as well. Close up with Buffalos and Giraffe
Good nice park, well maintained. Animals here dont compete for food. No big cats. Baboons, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, wild hogs, small dyka etc
Its is the best place for day trip and afordable price than any other national park
A medium-sized national park with tropical plants and plenty of wild animals such as Giraffes, Wild buffaloes, Birds, Baboons, etc. A great start before going to other larger national parks.
The drive, the view, the stop momela, it was awesome. You should definitely visit. But do not exit your vehicles except at designated areas.
Its a good place to reassure and enjoy so if do you want to enjoy your life by seeing some animal, birds, and amazing environment that you never seen your so welcome in Tanzania at Arusha National Park.
You wanna visit Arusha national park and climb mount Meru ! Check out @joyafricasafari.com
Arusha National Park is 322 sq Kilometers in size, 32 Kilometers from Arusha City Centre and 40 Kilometers from Kilimanjaro International Airport. The place is great with various activities including game drive, canoeing, bird watching, walking safaris, horse riding, biking ... In the park, you will possible spot giraffe, zebra, white colobus monkey, buffalo, waterbuck among others.. Park attendants are welcoming, charming and very helpful. Accommodation options are also available inside the park.
Not for the big five, even though leopards and elephants do exist in the park but for the most part stay invisible. Most famous for the black and white colobus and flamingos. With some luck hippos can be seen. More common are baboons, waterbucks, bushbucks, zebras, giraffes and buffaloes. Many birds such as bee-eaters and kingfishers.
Dense forest, parasitic fig tree, black and white colobus monkeys, small serengeti, momela lakes, ngurdoto crater, etc
Overpriced, inflexible, and underwhelming. If you are only making a day trip for trekking, you will pay close to 100 USD (45 daily conservation fee + 5 driver entrance + 9 vehicle entry + 20 walking fee + VAT = 92 USD), and will furthermore be limited to 4 hours of walking, 3/4 of which are on a road that is also used by 4x4s which roar past every so often. When paying, I was not told there were options for short walk (4 hours), and could not change this after arriving at the location where you pick up your guide (Momela Gate). Furthermore, I was not given a choice of where to walk, but told by the guard that the itinerary for a short walk was fixed. To add insult to injury, the guide was close to useless: did not know more than the most basic facts about local fauna/flora/ecosystems, and could not keep up with my walking pace. Please understand that I am a huge fan of the mountains of northern Tanzania, and have enjoyed my visits to other parks and place in Tanzania over the years. But this visit to Arusha NP was *extremely* disappointing. I dont think I will give TANAPA any more of my money.
Best safari trek ever. Amazing natural beauty. Wonderful wildlife. Happy that I was there in this life.
Spend the boxing day in the park. Game drive, walking safari, waterfalls. Amazing experience in this small park
A different experience in Arusha National Park!Arusha National Park is often undertaken and skipped during safari in Tanzania. Its really a shame, this park is really nice and its a mountain park, different than other parks in Northern circuit.During the day you see different environments, i.e. forest, lakes, crater (Ngurdoto), plain...In Momela lakes you can see flamingos and other water birds. This is a very good park for bird watchers. There are a lot of monkey and you can spot black and white colobus monkeys. Its also well know for the high giraffes density as well as walking safari with park ranges is an exciting experience. Usually you can see bufalos during the walk and take nice shots at the waterfalls.Mount Meru (4.5685m) is inside Arusha National Park and its the 5th highest mountain in Africa, 2nd in Tanzania after Mt Kilimajaro (5.895 m).Its not far from Arusha town, there are a lot of lodges in town or outside town.
Is a good place with a good view of natural forest with alot of wild animals also you will enjoy the view of mount Meru
Our walking safari here was the best safari experience I ever had. Book a guide and stay at least three days.
