Fabulous safari trip, with Daniel (Balella) as our guide. He was very knowledgeable, brilliant àt spotting the animals and great fun to spend time with. We miss him and his stories already! We found he had great respect for the animals and unlike some other guides, didnt go off road to interfere with what the animals were doing. We have amazing memories of our trip which will last a lifetime.
Ill have to expand this review, but until then heres also my 5*, as was our experience.Safari 5-6 days: Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater and Ndutu.December 18/Jan 19Guide: MoisonSpoke with: AngelGreat organisation, great choices and I believe the value-for-money was also quite legit. Here the expanded version:Its been 3 months now since our trip. Due to the fact, that we chose Earthlife based on reviews, it would be selfish of us, not to write a review.Pre-travelThe first thing you need to know and of outmost importance: this company exists, its legit, they work. Im mentioning it, because youd typically have to pay couple of ks before going, so hence you need that assurance. I dont know about all the rest, but as I was browsing through other companies comments, there were some with 90% fake reviews. About me being real: you can find me also as @konidc at instagram, for the photos I made with them ;) and im the konstantinos at google maps review. To their service:All arrangements were done with Angel. She (its a she) radiates a positivity from her emails, she understands 100% your needs, works on that, reads your whole emails (not standard replies!), makes the schedule you want. Not a native speaker. Not pushy about the payments, solutions oriented.Car:We were honeymooners. The vehicle was great, similar to what everybody else has. This one fitted up to 6 people, 4 back, 2 front + driver. We were 2+driver. Hence, great. They have 10-15 cars and some few drivers too.Driver:Moison. He is experienced, he puts effort on that. English is his weak point, but we understood each other every single time. His favourite quote Are we together?, which he used to see if you follow up at this stories, is an expression we use now in our communication. He was maybe describing a bit too much (our taste), but we cant accuse someone of over-trying, would be unfair of us. He adjusted to our schedule, in general, great guy, knew his animals, has his connections, could spot them too.Thank you Moison.Drives to shops:We were brought to couple of shops, but we didnt feel the pressure of buying stuff from our guide/driver.Safari:We visited Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Mdutu. All great guys. We were 6-7 days on the road, all of them were worth it. Saw big 5, Rhino the hardest to spot, saw it in the Ngoro-Crater. Many many many animals.Money:Went over Xmas-NY (I guess high season?), chose on some quite good (not the most expensive) accommodation, was something around 380$/day/person.Camps:Simba - Eileens - Mbugani (migration and serengeti)They also worked with another tour-operator to offer us also our chill-extension at Zanzibar. Their choice there wasnt our favourite.Summary:The experience itself is amazing. The Earthlife guys know their job well. They dont have the fancy websites the others do, but theyre locals and they do the job too.
We booked a 5 night tour with Earthlife Expeditions in August 2018.We chose to use them based on the exceptional responses that we received from Angel, right from the outset. She was patient with our questions, understanding of our concerns, flexible, responsive, kind and we felt that she really understood why we wanted to come to Tanzania.Once we arrived, we were in the care of Mr Moison, who was our guide, driver and friend for the duration of the trip. I cannot recommend him highly enough as a guide; his knowledge and passion for all animal life was extremely evident from the outset. If you are thinking about doing any tours or Safaris in Tanzania, and you want a good value, reliable, local company that is going to make it a trip of a lifetime, I would strongly recommend you to give Earthlife a call! Thanks to all of the team for making our trip to your amazing country so incredible.Tim
Irresponsible and unethical companyI am writing this review to raise awareness on this company unethical practices, fortunately I didnt arrange my safari with Earthlife.Being on a safari in the Serengeti National Park with another tour company at a certain point we spotted a buffalo recently hunted and killed by lions, which were actually feeding on it at the time. There were about 50 cars present at the scene so as you can imagine there was quite some commotion about it and everyone needed to be respectful and considerate so all the tourists could witness the scene. All other companies were extremely professional and maintained a decent distance from the animals in order not to disturb them and to allow everyone around to have a clear line of sight to the action. At a certain point a Earthlife Expeditions car just decided to move forward and park right in front of the animals, literally 1 meter away from the kill, not only blocking everyone else from watching it but also eventually scaring the lions away from the scene. They didnt just stop there for a quick picture, they were actually parked in front of everyone else for at least 30 minutes, to a point that when the lions abandoned the fresh kill everyone else started to leave. Safari companies should have a minimum of respect and consciousness for the natural environment that they are, in a way, invading. The contact and disturbance on the animals should be minimum which certainly wasnt the case when they parked a large vehicle with 3 people in it (driver and 2 passengers) right in front of the lions. Apart from being irresponsible and unethical, their attitude was also extremely disrespectful towards every other company and tourist on the scene, even though they were requested multiple times to move they driver just kept ignoring everyone and stayed there for over half an hour, absolutely unacceptable. Please be responsible and conscious about the fantastic natural habitats you are having the privilege to visit and do not support companies who show no respect for the wildlife and environment they should be protecting, do not book your safari experience in Tanzania with Earthlife Expeditions!!!Edit 04/09/2019:Unfortunately I didnt receive a notification for the companys reply and only now read it. Answering their offensive and untrue allegations I am and was a tourist, not related in any way to any local company, I live in the United Arab Emirates and it was my first and only time in Tanzania. It just adds to the lack of professionalism I witnessed on the safari itself that they now accuse me of working for a competitor company and writing fraudulent reviews, I would like to see some proof of those allegations as I can certainly prove they are untrue. As for proof of the events I described in my original post I do have multiple pictures of the incident, I have multiple witnesses who unfortunately shared the experience with me, and with permission from the company I traveled with I can also identify my guide who will certainly attest the authenticity of my review. The park rangers were indeed contacted by radio by our guide but sadly didnt respond on time. If Earthlife expeditions really pride themselves on such a wonderful service, respect for rules and above all respect for the animals I am sure they can contact me directly to clear out any doubts they may have about my post instead of attacking me personally for making an honest complain. As for Tripadvisor removing my post I contacted them about it and the only reason was that I indeed, fortunately, didnt travel with Earthlife and thus am not qualified to review their services on Tripadvisor. On the picture you can clearly see the tourist looking down, thats because Earthlifes vehicle was parked right next to the kill while the lions were eating, blocking everyone elses view and naturally stressing the animals as they were literally centimeters away from them. Is this ethical behavior? I dont think so...
Where do you start, this was a life changing trip. The animals were amazing, the scenery spectacular, & Paul our guide was gobsmacking brilliant. How he found the animals in the middle of no where I have no idea. Felt safe at all times, food was really good, & the wonderful people of Tanzania will remain in my heart forever. I hope to return again one day.I can,t recommend Earth Life expeditions enough, keep up the good work.
We had an amazing time! Earthlife were very responsive and helpful throughout the entire process - before, during and after the trip. Caudence did an amazing job coordinating the entire trip. Abu was one of the most knowledgeable guides that we have had the pleasure of being on a safari with (and we have been on many safaris). The hotels were all comfortable. Everyones dietary requirements were well catered for. The car was big and comfortable enough for our family of 5 adults. There are many good things to say - I would definitely recommend them!
We had a trip of a lifetime with our guide Junior (Godlisten) of Earthlife expeditions. All staff very very helpful and went the extra mile many times during our adventure. Our luggage was delayed 4 days and our guide purchased clothing and basics for us so that we could enjoy our first few days, he even gave my fiance his own clothes to wear (shirt, shorts, sandals) and then drove hours to pick our luggage up that was a detour from our itineray while we rested at our homestay. Our itinerary was a dream, we saw everything and so much more than we hoped. Our guide was very talented at positioning the vehicle and reading animal behaviors for extraordinary photo opportunities, I noticed we had better vantage points often than other safari vehicles. All accomodations were excellent. We asked for a trip to Kilimanjaro and a local village homestay and these were added on without any issues to our itinerary. We met many local people and had a wonderful cultural experience in addition to the safari that was authentic and private. I was very impressed with the skills and talents of our guide, he was fluent in 5 languages, a mechanic and handy man (which is important on the rough roads), great help negotiating at local markets and with guides. I have a keen interest in agriculture and ethnobotany and Junior made sure I had many opportunities to learn, including an improptu bush walk with the local Masai people to learn about medicinal plants. We had a surreal experience of coming uncomfotably close to a lioness while at an observation point in a park out of the vehicle (a place permitted to be out) and he was calm, and instucted us on what to do in a way that minimized our stress and fears, the lioness continued on her way, an experience we wont soon forget! Junior cleaned the vehicle every day and there was a fridge and charging ports in the car which were muchly appreciated as camera batteries dont last long with all the photo opportunities. We shopped around with several companies and feel we had excellent value and a wonderful safari vacation with Earthlife. At the conclusion of our safari they even booked our domestic flight to Zanzibar and met us at the airport with our tickets and arranged transport to our next hotel even though our tour with their company had concluded. We highly recommend and are grateful for the memories and experience we had!
Thank you Caudence and Jeff for making our trip much more than we expected! Your attention to detail; your expertise and your friendliness was truly appreciated. We will be happy to recommend Earthlife to our friends!
